The redesigned cover expresses the ethereal, wistful, and serious feel of the book while making a nod to the Chilean setting.
The title appears out of the shadows of the Chilean Bellflower. I achieved this look by projecting a black and white composition through a paper towel which I then photographed to capture its natural, gritty texture.
The font used for the title is ‘Spirits’ by Latinotype, a Chilean type foundry. On the jacket this is paired with the clean, geometric yet warm ‘Sofia Pro’ designed by Olivier Gourvat and published by Mostardesign.
The Process
Some early experiments
I loved the feel of this but it needed to be more connected to the story...
And that’s the final unedited image! The projector is behind the piece of glass and is projecting the mirror image of what you see.
